Mrs. Scholten Profile

Welcome to my personal page.  I am so happy you dropped in for a visit. On this page you will get the opportunity to learn a little bit more about me.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education and English from Mayville State University. I have been in elementary education for thirty years, and the journey has been exciting and never dull. Teaching at Grace Lutheran School is an honor and a privilege for me, and each day is a gift from our Lord.

I got my start at Grace teaching in the early childhood programs. Those 4-5 year olds kept me on my toes and brought me so much joy! Many years later, I decided it was time for a change and began teaching fourth grade. We have a lot of fun together and much of the learning we do is hands-on. The best teachers I have ever had in my professional career are my students.

A valuable part of our learning involves improving our communication skills. Through oral reports, plays, and events like “Students Do The News,”  the students become more comfortable and confident in their speaking and writing abilities. Better communication skills will serve them in many areas of their lives- from academics and their future careers to being powerful witnesses for Christ.

I love music and try to incorporate it in the classroom setting as often as I can. We also enjoy learning about different cultures, and the Ellis Island unit of study is always a big hit!  The fourth graders learn to appreciate the diversity around them.  Opportunities to interview senior citizens  and real life experiences are integrated into the curriculum.

My husband, Ben and I have been married for 39 years. We are blessed with a daughter, son-in-law, and a son.  We have one pet-a basset hound named Taz that looks admiringly at us with one blue eye and one brown eye!

I love to read! It is my favorite quiet activity, and I try to do it every day. I like to read all kinds of books, mysteries, and suspense are some of my favorites, but I also like biographies, and some poetry. I enjoy church activities, singing, laughing, listening to music, and flower gardening. I have had so much fun working with technology that I am taking classes to learn more about how we can use technology and digital media in our classroom to make our learning even more exciting!
