Illness Information
In an effort to help protect well children from unnecessary exposure to contagious or infectious diseases, Grace Lutheran School requires that children and staff with certain diseases and conditions stay home from school or childcare while contagious.
Illness Regulations
The following are the regulations that GLS follows with regard to illness and our students:
Chicken Pox
Case – Exclude at least 7 days from rash or until all lesions crusted.
Contacts – Consider immunization within a few days of exposure. Incubation 11-21 days
Diarrhea
Case – Exclude from school
Contacts – Incubation – can return after 24 hours of no symptoms.
Fever -100 degrees or above
Case – Exclude from school
Contacts – Incubation – 24 hours. Can return to school if no fever after 24 hours
Head Lice
Case – Exclude from school until treated and determined to be non-communicable (no nits)
Contacts – Close contacts should be checked frequently for 2 weeks
Mono
Case – no exclusion
Contacts – Avoid activities that increase risk of saliva sharing (sharing cups, etc.) and use careful handwashing
Pink Eye
Case – Exclude until cleared or have been on medication for 24 hours
Contacts – Frequent hand washing for staff in contact with case
Ring Worm
Case – Exclude until cleared or have been on medicat for 24 hours
Contacts – Close contacts should watch for skin irritation within 1 to 2 weeks
Strep Throat
Case – Isolate 24 hours after beginning treatment. May not return until 24 hours of treatment
Contacts – Daily observation in school. Follow instructions from private physician
Vomiting
Case – Exclusion from school
Contacts – Incubation – can return to school after 24 hours of no symptoms
